Former mayor Michael Bloomberg tore into Donald Trump’s business record Wednesday night, and openly questioned the Republican presidential candidate’s sanity.
“Trump says he wants to run the nation like he’s running his business. God help us,” Bloomberg said in a speech at the Democratic National Convention.
Bloomberg urged voters to vote for Hillary Clinton, whom he described as competent and “sane.” Meanwhile, he called Trump [TRDataCustom] a “dangerous demagogue” whose business plan is a “disaster in the making.”
“I’m a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one,” he quipped.
Bloomberg ran for mayor as a Republican, and is widely respected in New York’s real estate industry for rezoning swaths of the city and encouraging development. Both Bloomberg and Trump are billionaires, but the former mayor made it clear that he doesn’t think much of the developer’s business track records, which includes a string of bankruptcies and lawsuits. “I built a business and I didn’t start it with a million-dollar check from my father,” he said.
Bloomberg briefly considered running for president, but abandoned the plans earlier this year. [Politico] – Konrad Putzier
