Should taxpayers foot Freedom Tower bill?

More debate over the plan to have federal and state agencies occupy large portions of the future Freedom Tower — this time centering around whether taxpayers should help pay for some of the swankiest government offices in the nation. The agencies would occupy the tower at a rate of $59 a square foot, well above the average office rent for Lower Manhattan. more [NYT]
Meanwhile, the Port Authority, owner of the World Trade Center site, is reaching out to private office tenants who want space in the Freedom Tower. more [Post]
Also, Gov. Pataki and Eliot Spitzer both expressed disappointment in Port Authority chairman Anthony Coscia, who said recently he would not force employees to relocate to the Freedom Tower. more [NYDN]
