Calatrava station $300M over budget

The Port Authority has reduced the cost overruns of building the PATH station planned for the World Trade Center to $300 million from $1 billion. The agency made alterations in the design and unseen engineering elements of the structure, but architect Santiago Calatrava successfully fought to preserve a function that allowed the roof to open. The “expense and relatively limited use of the function” had made it an early target for cost savings. more [Sun]
