Novac Noury rejected an offer from developer Andr Balazs to buy out his nearby building at 51 Little West 12th Street. Noury, known for inventing the arrow-shaped, water-spraying “keytar,” wants instead to build a 10-story “mini-inn” at the site, which he has owned since the mid-1980s. He has also proposed building a drawbridge-style “Stairway to High Line” that would link the adjacent 1.5-mile-long High Line Park to an outdoor patio in case of emergency. Balazs’ new 344-room Standard hotel on West 13th Street is slated to open next year.
