Bloomberg’s West Side rezoning plan draws critics

Critics of Mayor Bloomberg’s congestion pricing plan say his proposal to rezone the Hudson Yards for 20,000 additional parking spaces defeats the purpose of charging vehicles fees to reduce Manhattan-bound traffic. Assemblyman Richard Gottfried is concerned that “if you build off-street parking, they will come.” Residents are suing to fight the rezoning plan, and environmental and transportation groups say it’s bad policy. Bloomberg has designated the Hudson Yards the city’s “next Gold Coast.”
