The real estate industry is contributing big money to the campaign
funds of mayoral candidate. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and
U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner have raised about one-fourth of
their campaign donations from real estate and construction figures.
Together with City Comptroller William Thompson Jr., the three have
raised at least $2 million from the real estate industry. The industry
hopes the next mayor will hold off on new zoning restrictions or
regulations while the real estate market deals with economic
uncertainty. The Real Deal reported this month that Tony Avella, a Queens Council Member and candidate for mayor, has also relied on donations from the industry.
