The city’s planned repairs on the decaying Coney Island Boardwalk aren’t likely to begin until after the summer, and will only be done in the two-and-a-half block main amusement area. The wooden boardwalk, which is pocketed with holes and has nails sticking out of it, will be replaced with a mix of concrete and synthetic material that will look like wood. Community members are complaining that more fixes are needed, and that the repairs should happen before this summer season. City officials say they are coming up with a plan to replace the entire boardwalk, a project that would cost $200 million.
