Private contractors to inspect cranes

The city Department of Buildings, under pressure to inspect about 250 construction cranes around the city, said in a statement to The Real Deal that it will use private contractors to augment its staff of inspectors. A department review of the cranes, which began after the March 15 crane collapse that killed seven people in Turtle Bay, is slated to be completed by the end of May. The sweep of the cranes and a more intensive inspection regimen has strained the seven city inspectors assigned to the task.
