DOB issues more after-hours permits

The Department of Buildings issued 21,000 after-hours work permits for 1,000 construction sites between January and April, compared to 9,000 permits for 400 sites during the same time last year. Almost 29,000 nighttime and weekend construction permits were issued during the first four months, twice the number issued during the period last year. After-hours work made up one-fifth of all construction accidents, including three fatalities and 23 injuries, in 2007, according to the DOB.
