Admiral’s Row gets another hearing

Another public hearing was held by the National Guard yesterday about the future of Admiral’s Row at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The 10 19th-century houses are eligible for the National Historic Register of Historic Places, meaning the Guard is required by law to examine all possible outcomes for the properties. Politicians are looking at the project as an either-or situation: either save the houses or demolish them for a supermarket parking lot. The Pratt Institute and the Fort Greene Association developed a proposal to both save the houses and build a supermarket, and the Municipal Arts Society announced they are designing a plan with the same shared-space idea.
