Billionaire hedge fund manager James Chanos paid $20 million for an
Upper East Side penthouse condominium, $4.85 million lower than the
listing price.

The 7,800-square-foot triplex at 3 East 75th Street, with seven rooms
and a 3,609-square-foot outdoor area, sold on August 14, according to
property records posted today.

Chanos is founder and president of Manhattan-based Kynikos Associates.
A supporter of former governor Eliot Spitzer, Chanos told the New York
Post that he knew call girl Ashley Alexandra Dupre, but did not
introduce her to Spitzer

The price was listed by Brown Harris Stevens at $24.85 million in the
fall of 2007, according to StreetEasy.
