Bronx, Brooklyn lead unemployment

increased in August, according to data from the New York State Department of
Labor. While the national unemployment rate stayed flat at around 6 percent, the state rate jumped to 5.6, with New York City faring the worst. Of the five boroughs, the Bronx and Brooklyn suffered the most, with the Bronx at an 8 percent unemployment rate followed by Brooklyn
at 6.4 percent. The Wall Street financial crisis did not figure into the
August data.
