In part at Rep. Charles Rangel’s request, the House ethics committee began an investigation of him yesterday. The committee is looking into Rangel’s use of four rent-stabilized apartments and congressional stationery for letters soliciting donations for an institute; his failure to pay taxes on rental income; and his use of a congressional garage to park a non-working car. Rangel’s attorney said he asked the committee to investigate the first three matters because he did not believe he had done anything wrong.
