City needs more land for Willets Point approval

The city may need to strike more deals with landowners to get the votes it needs for the City Council to pass a Willets Point redevelopment
measure. Two recent purchase agreements, with auto salvage company
Prevete Brothers and Indian food manufacturer House of Spices, give the
city about 10 acres of land, but it still needs to acquire another 38
acres. Many council members have said they would reject the
proposal because they are concerned about eminent domain and a
lack of affordable housing in the plans for Willets Point.
