Politicians,
residents and hospital officials had a meeting yesterday to discuss the
fate of Long Island College Hospital, which has announced plans to
close its maternity, pediatrics and dentistry wards. The hospital has
already laid off 100 employees with plans to fire 200 more. The medical
staff has petitioned the state to grant the hospital independence from
Continuum Health Partners, the hospital’s parent company, and to permit the hospital to partner with SUNY-Downstate Medical Center.
