Former Fordham Library to become animal shelter

The city plans to turn the former Fordham Library in the Bronx, at Bainbridge Avenue and Fordham Road, into an animal shelter, and residents are angry it won’t become a community center. Community leaders said they have been trying to convince the city to turn the building into a youth center for over a year. The city was required by law to have a licensed, full-service animal shelter in each borough by 2006, but the Bronx still doesn’t have one, and now the animal shelter plan could be put on hold due to budget cuts.
