Local elected officials and residents scheduled a protest this morning in response to prisoners being moved into the Brooklyn House of Detention. Critics say having an active jail in the neighborhood will impede efforts to upgrade the area and will discourage development. The jail has been closed since 2003, but the city Department of Correction is planning to reopen the facility and double its capacity. The jail can currenlty hold 759 prisoners.
