Opera star Placido Domingo buys $1M East Side co-op

Opera singer Placido Domingo paid $999,000 for a 1,400-square foot co-op apartment on the East Side. The 67-year old tenor and his wife Marta, a former soprano, closed on the one-bedroom unit at 425 East 58th Street, between First Avenue and Sutton Place, on November 26, according to city property records. The couple owns at least two additional units in the building on upper floors, records show. Domingo was born in Spain and raised in Mexico. He had his first lead role in New York City with the City Opera in Lincoln Center in 1966.
