Jimmy Breslin buys in Sheffield 57

Legendary New York journalist Jimmy Breslin and his wife, former City Council member Ronnie Eldridge, paid $1.65 million for an apartment in the troubled Kent Swig condominium conversion Sheffield 57, south of Columbus Circle.

The purchase at the 58-story tower at 322 West 57th Street, between Eighth and Ninth avenues, closed on December 8, according to property records published Friday.

In October, The Real Deal reported that contractors had filed liens totaling $2.77 million against the building, and in November, the developer said he had refinanced his loan on the project, which had been placed on a watch list, according to an August report by Standard & Poor’s.

Eldridge acknowledged the building’s problems, but said she looked forward to moving into their condo sometime before January 1. “I am sure the building in the long run will be a nice place to live… We are waiting for the health club and the swimming pool,” she said, and added, “The apartment is lovely and the location is grand.”

On October 3, the couple sold its 1,745-square-foot penthouse condo apartment at 2000 Broadway, at West 68th Street, for $3.3 million, which they had purchased in 1993.
