Falling home values in New York State are affecting people’s ability to sell their homes and move to other
states. Between July 2007 and July 2008, 257,000 people moved out of
New York, according to an analysis by demographers at Queens
College. It is the first time the number fell below 300,000 since the
Census Bureau began measuring annual migrations in 1982. Between 2005
and 2006, 521,000 residents left New York.
