A mixed-income
apartment tower planned for the BAM Cultural District has been put on
hold because of the downturn, according to the Brooklyn Paper. Construction of the 187-unit tower, at
the corner of Fulton Street and Ashland Place, was supposed to begin
this spring. A spokesperson for the city Department of Housing
Preservation and Development said the joint construction effort by Studio MDA and the Gotham Group is on hold due to the “shaky market.”
Also in the area, renovations of the Strand Theater are behind
schedule, and a building designed by Enrique Norten is on hold because
the Brooklyn Public Library backed out of the project last year.
