The Stuyvesant
Town-Peter Cooper Village
Tenants Association and four tenants have
filed a $10 million class-action lawsuit against landlord Tishman
Speyer for allegedly making improper primary residence challenges in an effort to force out
rent-stabilized tenants. The lawsuit alleges that Tishman initiated
legal proceedings against tenants “without probable cause and in a
malicious, willful, reckless and wanton manner.” Tishman Speyer’s
efforts to find tenants abusing the rent-stabilization system has been
a controversial component of the landlord running the 110-building
complex.
