Openings and closings: A Sam Flax closing, Moco Global Dining shuttered

Sam Flax On 20th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues is closing at the end of the month, but the 900 Third Avenue location will remain open. Morningside Bookshop at Broadway and 114th Street in Morningside Heights will close because it is unable to pay $158,000 in back rent. Elite Cafe at 185 Columbus Avenue has been shuttered due to non-payment of taxes. Mexican restaurant and nightclub Selena, at 252 West 38th Street, has closed after losing its liquor license in May. Moco Global Dining, at 516 Third Avenue near 34th Street in Murray Hill, has closed after being in business for little over a year. Plans to expand the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca would push out popular Mexican chain restaurant Mary Ann’s. East Village bar Angels and Kings, at 500 East 11th Street between avenues A and B, was shut down after receiving its third citation for serving alcohol to minors. In Brooklyn, high-end furniture store Green & West Furniture, at 190 West Street in Greenpoint, has closed shop after opening last fall. Stain Bar, at 766 Grand Street in Williamsburg, will close after five years in business. In East Hampton, Mexican spot Blue Parrot appeared to be open for business, but signs turned patrons away.

H&H Bagels on the Upper West Side has reopened for business after being temporarily shut down for tax evasion. Lenny’s has a new location now open in Rockefeller Center Concourse. The Palace Hotel, at 455 Madison Avenue at 51st Street, has opened a 75-seat outdoor lounge. Chipotle will open up in The Former Food Bar Spot On 8th Avenue in Chelsea. Thai spot Kati is slated to open in the former Mambo Italiano Pizza space on 14th Street. Italian trattoria Mr. C’s is now open on 7th Street and Avenue C. Shaun Hergatt is returning to the hotel restaurant industry with a new French-style restaurant at the Setai at 40 Broad Street near Exchange Place. In Brooklyn, the owners of The Bar Great Harry On Smith Street will open another beer-garden style bar near the corner of 4th Avenue and Carroll Street. Joaquin Baca of Momofuku fame has opened the Brooklyn Star at 33 Havemeyer Street between North 7th and North 8th streets in Williamsburg. Seafood restaurant Sel de Mer has opened in the former Najeeb’s space at 374 Grand Avenue in Williamsburg. A coffee shop called Cup will open on Norman Avenue between Manhattan Avenue and Lorimer Street in Greenpoint. Saraghina pizzeria is slated to open at 435 Halsey Near Lewis Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Park Delicatessen, at 533 Park Place in Crown Heights, is now a general store selling skateboards, t-shirts and old gardening equipment. TRD
