Openings and closings: Recess to open, Village Gourmet closed

Animazing Gallery will move a few blocks from its Broome Street location in Soho to a new space at 54 Greene Street, according to a press release. Frozen yogurt spot Recess is set to open in the former Spice space on University Place. Michael “Bao” Huynh will open a Vietnamese beer garden on Orchard Street. Bohemian sushi spot is opening at 57 Great Jones Street. Italian brewery Open Baladin will open in the upcoming New York City outpost of Eataly, an Italian supermarket, in Midtown. Costume jewelry and accessories store Designers Way is coming to 519 Eighth Avenue. Butterick Fabrics has recently signed a lease for space at 237 West 35th Street.

In Brooklyn, the former Gravy and Trout space at the corner of Smith and Pacific streets in Carroll Gardens will become a BBQ joint. A new veterinarian office, Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group, is coming to 455 Court Street, also in Carroll Gardens. Second Stop Café on the corner of Lorimer and Ainslie streets in Williamsburg will double in size next month. Canal Jean Company has a location in Brooklyn at 2236 Nostrand Avenue in Ditmas Park. Also in Brooklyn, Dunkin Donuts has opened on Knapp Street.

As these stores have opened, Village Gourmet at 823 Washington Street has shuttered. Rosen’s Deli at 23 East 51st Street has also closed. Red Mango on Eighth Avenue between 45th and 46th streets has been seized by the city marshal, reportedly because of a dispute between the owner of the store and the building’s landlord. TRD
