opened at 4 Astor Place, the site of the old Barnes and Noble building. A convenience store is moving into 45 First Avenue between 2nd and 3rd streets. Panache Café will open at 182 Avenue B in the East Village. Rumors are circulating that a new T-shirt shop will open at 36 St. Mark’s Place. Also on St. Mark’s Place a new karaoke lounge will move between Second and Third avenues. Musician Jack White will open a two-day pop-up shop at 131
Chrystie Street. William Greenberg Jr. Desserts at 1100 Madison Avenue between 82nd and 83rd streets is undergoing renovations by Landow and Landow Architects, according to a Landow and Landow representative. The renovations are scheduled for completion August 31. The shop will temporarily operate from a neighboring location.

location at 270 Court Street in Cobble Hill. Sculptured Flame has signed a five-year lease for a 2,400-square-foot space at 298 Bond Street in Boerum Hill, according to a press release from Ideal Properties Group, the broker on both sides of the deal. The unit will be used for a Web design school. A new, unnamed bar will open in spring 2010 at 543 Third Avenue in Gowanus, Ideal announced. The 1,800-square-foot space has been leased for 10 years with a five-year option. Lounge owners Chance 11 signed a 10-year lease for a 2,000-square-foot storefront at 895 Fulton Street in Fort Greene. The space will be used for an upscale sports lounge, Ideal said.

is closing its Madison Avenue location. The Upper West Side’s Comida at 461 Columbus Avenue is the most recent victim in a series of restaurant fires. Although Escada‘s reluctance to move into its new Soho location at 555 Broadway has been well-reported, newly emerged rumors of the company’s possible bankruptcy have provided a probable cause. Prospect Height’s Manhattans Bar at 769 Washington Avenue may close. In Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s Studio B club at 259 Banker Street closed this past weekend. TRD
