The Mott restaurant has opened in the former Double Happiness space at 173 Mott Street in Chinatown. J. Crew’s children’s store, Crewcuts, will open its first Manhattan location at 1200 Madison Avenue between 87th and 88th streets Aug. 11. Italian restaurant Gina La Fornarina is slated to open at 279 Amsterdam Avenue at West 73rd Street. The Second Avenue and 9th Street location of Max Brenner has shuttered. Its Union Square location will remain open. While rumors have not yet been confirmed, an insider says the brother of the owner of the pizza place Lucali’s will open a second location on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 20th Street. Outside New York, a new public safety complex will open by the end of August in Greenwich, Conn. Chinatown skewer spot BBQ Express at 119 Mosco Street has been shut down by the health department for operating without a license. A Subway sandwich shop is taking over the old Chelsea Liquors space on Ninth Avenue near 18th Street. A tipster says Chino’s on Third Avenue between 16th and 17th streets has shuttered. Biography Bookstore will move from Bleecker and 11th streets, where Marc Jacobs is slated to move in, to a less expensive space at 266 Bleecker Street near Seventh Avenue. The former Hispanic church on Avenue B between 11th and 12th streets has “for rent” signs hanging from it. In Brooklyn, Café Mei Mei will open in the former Jill’s Café space at 231 Court Street in Cobble Hill. TRD
