The Upper East Side apartment where writer John Steinbeck lived and worked has just hit the market, after a five-year feud among family members following the death of Steinbeck’s third wife, Elaine Anderson Steinbeck. Richard Danker, president of Prime Manhattan Residential, is selling the apartment on behalf of Elaine Steinbeck’s heirs. The 2,200-square-foot apartment, which has three bedrooms plus Steinbeck’s study, is in Tower East, at 190 East 72nd Street near Third Avenue. It is listed for $2.1 million, with the buyer required to pay at least 50 percent in cash. The apartment will require at least $250,000 in renovations, Danker said.
