Queens homeowners want landmark status

Despite ongoing demands over the last several years from homeowners in the Queens neighborhood of Broadway-Flushing to landmark their historic single-family homes, the Landmarks Preservation Commission has yet to designate any landmark statuses. “Historically, the commission has been against granting landmark status to single-family detached housing,” said Paul Graziano, first vice president of the Historic Districts Council. In a video posted on Queens Rules, members of the Broadway-Flushing Homeowners Association explain why the neighborhood needs landmark status to prevent overdevelopment and out-of-character buildings from appearing in the historic neighborhood of mostly colonial and Tudor-style homes.
