Be@Schmerhorn resumes construction

Construction has resumed at the troubled development Be@Schermerhorn, after being purchased by Jamestown Properties, an Atlanta-by-way-of-Germany real estate investment firm, in November. Developer SDS Procida has rehired construction staffers including painters, electricians, and contractors, according to a statement from the company’s president, Mario Procida. “Everyone involved is excited to be back at work and looking forward to finishing the quality product we started two years ago,” Procida said. The Downtown Brooklyn project at 189 Schermerhorn Street, which is currently around 92 percent complete, officially stalled in September, and the developer began offering refunds to buyers due to the repeated construction delays.

Final unit contract signed at 90 First Place

Contract signings have completed at 90 First Place in Carroll Gardens, according to a press release sent today from developer the Brody Group, which built the brownstone conversion project, and its exclusive marketing firm Halstead Property. The five-unit development includes three two-bedroom residences and two duplexes. Prices ranged from $925,000 to $1.15 million. Sales had begun in April.


Roosevelt Island park gets $10M grant

The groundbreaking on the new Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island has been scheduled for Jan. 2010, thanks in part to a $10 million gift awarded today from the Alphawood Foundation of Chicago, according to a press release from Alphawood. The construction of the four-acre park is expected to create an estimated 200 jobs. TRD
