Daniel Tishman, chairman and CEO of original World Trade Center builder Tishman Construction says work at the new 1 World Trade Center is moving along nicely, despite the controversy and the difficulty of getting around six PATH rail lines at the site. His company, which bears no relation to Tishman Speyer (though Tishman Speyer co-founder Bob Tishman is his father’s eldest cousin), has completed the 700,000-square-foot underground structure that will “feed the building” and expects to complete the rest of the tower in mid-2013. Tishman has also broken ground on Tower 4, while Tower 3 awaits emergence from a dispute with developer Larry Silverstein. “I believe Larry fully intends to complete his projects,” Tishman told the New York Times. “Literally the day after the first World Trade Center tower was taken down, Larry called my father and said, ‘John, we’re going to rebuild these things.’” [NYT]
