J Condo eatery at 100 Jay Street opens

Philadelphia mainstay Rita’s Water Ice is planning to open three Manhattan locations in the coming year, with the first planned to open on the Upper West Side at 2486 Broadway near 92nd Street on Sunday. In the Flatiron District, a hipster-inspired souvenir shop called No. 8a has opened in the Ace Hotel at 22 West 29th Street on the corner of Broadway, according to Urban Daddy. In the East Village, a new bar called the 13th Step is opening at 149 Second Avenue between 9th and 10th streets.

In Park Slope, an unnamed apartment building on Fourth Avenue between 2nd and 3rd streets is having its ground floor renovated for use as a café and cultural activities center, according to Brownstoner. A new eatery is opening in the ground-floor space of the J Condo in Dumbo at 100 Jay Street near the corner of York Street.

Amid these openings are a few closings.

The Eater blog brings word that three West Village establishments, Karaoke Boho at 186 West 4th Street at the corner of Barrow Street, Empire Szechuan Greenwich at 15 Greenwich Avenue between West 10th and Christopher streets, and Rare Bar & Grill at 228 Bleecker Steet on the corner of Carmine Street, have closed.
