Openings and closings: Little Italy Pizza opens, Village Paper Party Store closes … and more

Aquavit star chef and contestant on Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters” Marcus Samuelsson is reportedly opening a new restaurant in Harlem called the Red Rooster. No word yet on how soon it will open.

In Midtown, a new location of Little Italy Pizza has opened at the corner of 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue.

EV Grieve blog brings word that a new burger joint, Select Burger, is opening in the East Village on the corner of First Avenue and 14th Street. A high-end furniture shop is also opening in the area, on the corner of Avenue A and 3rd Street.

A new restaurant called Eastern Alley is opening on the Lower East Side at 6 Clinton Street near the corner of East Houston Street. Also on the LES, a menswear boutique, Any Old Iron, is opening at 149 Orchard Street between Stanton and Rivington streets.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Bunny Chow at 74 Orchard Street between Broome and Grand streets is not closing.

Brownstoner brings word of a few new spots opening in Brooklyn. A new sushi restaurant called “1 or 8” is opening at 66 South 2nd Street between Wythe and Kent avenues. In Carroll Gardens, a new Mediterranean restaurant called Palmyra has opened at 316 Court Street between Degraw and Sackett streets. A salon focusing on teen and tween care called Felicity is opening in Park Slope at 540 President Street.

Amid these openings, there have been a few closings.

In Brooklyn Heights, home furnishings store Nova Zembla is closing at 117 Atlantic Avenue on the corner of Henry Street after 11 years. In the West Village, a fire has ravaged two businesses, the Village Paper Party Store at 18 Greenwich Avenue on the corner of West 10th Street and Kingswood restaurant at 121 West 10th Street between Sixth and Greenwich avenues. While Kingswood reportedly lost its gas and electric utilities, reports say that the damage to the Village Paper Party Store was more extensive.
