Columbia University is moving forward with plans for a new sports building in Inwood, according to Curbed. The new building on the corner of Broadway and West 218th Street will stand near the university’s outdoor athletic facilities, including the Robert Kraft Field, and will replace the maintenance shed that currently sits there. Noted architect Steven Holl is said to be at the helm of the project, which will contain 40,000 square feet and five stories when completed. Holl, a professor at Columbia’s Graduate School of Architecture and Planning, designed the facade for the Storefront for Art and Architecture in Nolita, which recently underwent a restoration.
