Anxious landlord shutters legal W’burg hostel

A Williamsburg hostel has been shuttered by its landlord over fears that the city would return for a second inspection after sparing the building the first time around, the Brooklyn Paper reported. In an inspection raid last week, the city nearly evicted Zip112, the two-floor, $45-a-night hostel run by hotelier Young Yang at 112 North 6th Street until Yang showed the inspector a second emergency exit via a fifth-floor ladder on the deck. Yang’s Zip112 was allowed to continue operations, though his Loftstel, which was located in the same building and had catered to longer-term residents at $1,000 a month, was not as lucky. Now, the owner of the building has decided not to take his chances that the city might return and slap him with a fine, and is forcing Zip112 to shutter anyway. [Brooklyn Paper]
