The Brooklyn Academy of Music will break ground tomorrow on its $45 million Richard B. Fisher Building, a theater and education facility at 321 Ashland Place in Fort Greene that is slated for completion in 2012. The organization is looking to raise about $4 million over the next two years to finish the project, for which most of the funding was secured before the recession, President Karen Brooks Hopkins told the Wall Street Journal. One fundraising method, she said, is growth in the commercial rentals department, for more events like “VH1 Divas,” which BAM hosted last year. [WSJ]
