Chloe Sevigny hopes to preserve buildings with a community board role

Actress Chloe Sevigny has expressed interest in joining her local
community
board, CB3, in the East
Village, according to the
Daily News. But if the “Big Love” star thinks her celebrity status will
grant
her any special privileges to get on it, she’s wrong. “We have a
merit-based
process,” said Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer. “There’s no special treatment here.” Hundreds of
residents apply each year, undergoing a screening process and
interviewing with
Stringer’s staff. Though Sevigny told Bust magazine that she wants to be
elected so she can help preserve some of the older buildings near her
East 10th Street
apartment, others have questioned her motives, saying she is campaigning
to
help her brother Paul Sevigny, a nightlife impresario. Paul’s Beatrice
Inn was shut down in 2009, and community boards have a lot of control
over the nightlife scene. But regardless of Chloe’s
intentions, Stringer said he is pleased with the prospect of her joining. “It
actually is
exciting that someone of her stature and notoriety would even consider
serving
her community as a board member,” he said. [NYDN]
