Long thought of as a sought-after amenity, more buyers and property owners are looking to apartment balconies as more of a liability than a perk, according to New York Magazine. In the wake of this March’s deadly balcony fall at 330 East 39th Street in Murray Hill, the Department of Buildings has cast a keen eye on railing safety, citing 16 different buildings in the city that pose an imminent threat to safety. And many real estate experts say that there is little for a nervous resident to do when it comes to conducting an independent safety review of one’s private balcony. [NY Mag]
