Robert
Benton, the writer-director behind films like “Kramer v. Kramer” and
“Bonnie and Clyde,” has put his 5,000-square-foot home on Georgica Pond
in the Wainscott section of East Hampton up for sale, asking $29.9
million. It’s a rare offering for the private, 100-acre gated community
known as the Georgica Association, a network of homes that dates back
to 1890, when it was founded as an exclusive summer enclave for artists
and academics. Benton’s four-bedroom home — the only waterfront
property currently available within the association — has open views
of the pond, a heated swimming pool and a 40-foot-wide great room with
a ceiling designed by architect Charles Gwathmey. Peter Turino of Brown
Harris Stevens recently took over the listing from the Corcoran Group’s
Susan Breitenbach (note: correction appended). [WSJ]
