Glenwood founder makes $25K contributions to four of six AG candidates through LLCs

While individuals in New York State are only legally allowed to give $150,000 to political campaigns annually, real estate moguls easily skirt the cap by donating through their many limited liability companies, set up originally to control each of their individual properties. That has apparently been the case with Leonard Litwin, owner of Glenwood Management, who has given hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions through dozens of LLCs over the past decade, WNYC reported. During this election cycle so far, the housing developer has given $25,000 donations to each of four of the six candidates running for New York State attorney general through multiple LLCs. Since 2000, he has donated $700,000 to federal campaign committees nationwide, records from website CampaignMoney.com show, and between 1999 and 2004, he contributed nearly $800,000 to state campaigns, according to a report by Common Cause. Three of the four AG candidates Litwin has supported — Nassau County DA Kathleen Rice, Assemblyman Richard Brodsky and State Sen. Eric Schneiderman — are Democratic contenders.
