Urgent care center not opening at St. Vincent’s

St. Vincent’s Hospital and North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System were unable to reach an agreement over the proposal to locate an urgent care center in the bankrupt hospital’s former emergency department, Crain’s reported. St. Vincent’s attempts to hold the center to Catholic directives on birth control, and negotiations over high rents held up the process, though North Shore had originally hoped to open the center next week. Instead, North Shore has signed what’s known as a “clinical affiliation agreement” with VillageCare to deliver health services in Lower Manhattan, including an urgent care center that could open in the early fall if approved by the state. The center will be located at 121-A West 20th Street, where VillageCare operates a primary care center. The new 24-hour urgent care facility will occupy about 10,000 square feet of the 20,000-square-foot building. [Crain’s]
