WTC construction may be complete by 2014

City and state officials expect construction by the World Trade Center site — including four office towers, a Santiago Calatrava-designed transit center and a Sept. 11 memorial and museum — to be complete by 2014, Bloomberg News reported. About 250,000 people a day will be working and visiting the complex, developer Larry Silverstein of Silverstein Properties said yesterday at a news briefing at 7 World Trade Center, a 52-story office building across from where the twin towers stood, which was finished in 2006. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the landscaped outdoor memorial would be done by next year, the 10th anniversary of the attacks, and that the National September 11 Memorial & Museum would be completed by 2012. The neighborhood is expected to attract about 12 million tourists in 2012, double the current level, according to the Alliance for Downtown New York. Construction on One World Trade Center, the project’s signature 1,776-foot building, will be done by 2013, said Christopher Ward, the executive director of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
