City Planning to review Bronx rezoning

September 27, 2010 04:15PM

City Planning Commissioner Amanda Burden

The Department of City Planning has kicked off an official public review of an 80-block proposed rezoning to revitalize a 1.75-mile stretch of Webster Avenue in the Northwest Bronx with residential and commercial development. The proposal would change what the City Planning Commission considers antiquated restrictive zoning along Webster Avenue dating back to to the days of the Third Avenue elevated train, which was demolished in 1973, to make way for a walkable corridor. The proposed new zoning would provide close to 740 units of new and affordable housing and about 100,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, office and community space. TRD
