Man busted in Queens apartment rental scam

A Brooklyn man was arrested this week and charged with fraud and grand larceny for allegedly duping hopeful tenants out of deposits after showing them foreclosed apartments that weren’t actually available for rent, according to the Daily News. The man, Roy Rave, took thousands of dollars from his victims before they realized he was pocketing the cash and never intended to help them move into the apartment, prosecutors said. Rave, who faces up to seven years in prison if he is convicted, is said to have taken rental deposits from at least four victims on the same Richmond Hill apartment. The manager of that property said Rave wasn’t even authorized to enter the apartment, let alone rent it out. [NYDN]
