Price slashed to $50M for Rosen’s UES manse

Aby Rosen’s 22,000-square-foot mansion at 22 East 71st Street — back on the market after a brief, and unexplained, disappearing act over the summer — has been price-chopped again, this time to $50 million.

It’s a far cry from the $75 million Rosen was asking for it in April 2008, when he put it on the market following the collapse of the resident Salander-O’Reilly Galleries, which were crushed in the wake of art dealer Lawrence Salander’s $88 million Ponzi scheme. Rosen originally paid $15.65 million for the 45-foot-wide townhouse, designed during the 1920s by C.P.H. Gilbert, in 2004, and after extensive renovations, he had rented it to Salander’s galleries for an initial $1.8 million per year.

In the more than two years since the home has been on the market, Rosen has reportedly turned down several $60 million-plus offers.

“The change in sales price is simply reflective of the current marketplace,” Sotheby’s International Realty, whose Serena Boardman and Meredyth Smith are handling the listing, said in a joint statement with Rosen’s RFR Realty today. A spokesperson for RFR declined to comment further.
