The city has tapped Dutch firm Arcadis to launch a study next year to analyze the decaying structure of the New York State Pavilion from the 1964 World’s Fair towers in Queens, according to the Daily News. The $300,000 review will look at the foundation, specifically the below-grade parts of its elliptical rotunda and its spaceship-like towers, which were featured in “Men in Black.” The study is the second one being done on the pavilion in two years and preservationists believe it will determine whether the city reuses or demolishes the landmark. A city Parks Department spokesperson said the analysis will provide “a fuller picture of the situation” and help the agency “determine the next steps.” A similar study commissioned last year on the crumbling Tent of Tomorrow rotunda estimated that stabilizing or preserving it would cost between $20.3 million and $29 million, while demolishing it would run $9.7 million.
