A section of Times Square was closed off this morning at the intersection of 42nd Street and Broadway after debris fell hundreds of feet onto the sidewalk below. No one was hurt in the accident, which happened shortly after 9:00 a.m, a spokesperson for the fire department told DNAinfo. Officials said the debris appeared to be some kind of electrical wiring that fell from a billboard on 7 Times Square. A spokeswoman for Boston Properties, which owns 7 Times Square, did not immediately return calls for comment. Police closed off the crosswalk and a portion of the pedestrian plaza from 42nd to 43rd Streets while crews cleaned up, and the space was reopened shortly after 11:00 a.m. The Department of Buildings sent officials to the scene, but it was not immediately clear whose responsibility it would be to conduct the investigation into the incident, a spokesperson said.
