Chinatown Fair, one of New York City’s last existing arcades, has been rumored to be shutting its doors for good, but those reports are untrue, according to Gothamist. Though arcade manager Henry Cen had said that the arcade, at 8 Mott Street, “lost its lease after decades of being in business” Gothamist spoke to manager Valentino, who said it was all a rumor. “People have been saying that we’ve been closing down for five or six years,” he told Gothamist. Chinatown Fair has been open since at least the 1950s and features a multitude of vintage and new arcade games, each costing a few quarters each. The Ripten blog says that if the arcade does close, there are reports about a possible move to Brooklyn, the Bronx or other parts of the city. Ripten also reported that Ashley Faro , editor of EmpireStateGaming, confirmed the closing. [Gothamist]
