Newmark takes on leasing at 440 Ninth Ave., CBRE honored by Fortune … and more

Commercial brokerage Newmark Knight Frank has been named the exclusive leasing agent for 440 Ninth Avenue, an 18-story, 390,000-square-foot building on the corner of 35th Street. The asking rent for the building’s 75,000 square feet of available space was not immediately clear. Duane Reade is headquartered in the building.

Private equity investment firm Kelso & Company has signed a 12-year lease for 41,073 square feet at 320 Park Avenue on the corner of 51st Street. The lease included an early renewal of some existing space the company had in the building as well as an expansion. It was not immediately clear how much the rent was or who represented the landlord in the transaction. Transwestern represented the tenant in the transaction.

CB Richard Ellis has been named one of Fortune magazine’s most admired companies, the brokerage announced today. The commercial real estate firm was ranked number one in terms of global competitiveness and number two in quality of services, people management and social responsibility. The report, which covers 57 different industries, surveyed 632 companies from 32 different countries.

The Freedom Institute, a non-profit drug and alcohol dependence resource center, has inked a 10-year, 7,318-square-foot lease at 515 Madison Avenue on the corner of 53rd Street. The organization, which was represented by Transwestern in the transaction, is relocating its 26th- and 35th-floor offices in the building to the 21st floor.
