UES Whitney offices for sale at $38M

An Upper East Side townhouse that’s currently serving as the offices for the Whitney Museum is back on the market for $38 million, after selling last October as part of a cluster of eight brownstones.

The Whitney, which sold the eight properties for a combined $95 million, according to public records, is currently leasing back the office space at 33 East 74th Street.

A museum spokesperson said that the institution chose to sell the properties “in order to consolidate offices,” in anticipation of the museum’s downtown move. The Whitney is slated to break ground on a new Meatpacking District project this spring.

The museum spokesperson said he did not know the identity of the current owner, an LLC called JZS Madison. He also said he could not comment on the owner’s motivation to sell the property.

Paula Del Nunzio of Brown Harris Stevens was identified as the listing agent on Streeteasy.com. However, her personal website does not include a listing page for the property. Del Nunzio and her spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

According to the listing page on Streeteasy.com, the townhouse at 33 East 74th Street was designed by noted architect Grosvenor Atterbury in 1901.
