Rowdy students cause headache for Brooklyn Heights dorm owner

Surveillance equipment will be installed on the rooftops opposite a Brooklyn Heights dormitory, and a paid staffer stationed outside at weekends to curtail the behavior of noisy students, according to the Brooklyn Paper.

Rowdy residents at 55 Clark Street, inside the former Hotel St. George near Henry Street, have been throwing soda bottles and yogurt at pedestrians and playing loud music into the early hours of the morning. Residents are frustrated and the owner of the building has turned to increased security measures.

The noise has been a problem for 14 years, since the building became a dorm, the Brooklyn Paper said. Hotel St. George was previously the largest hotel in the city and was featured in “The Godfather.”

The non-profit that manages the dorm, Student Life for Educational Housing Services, said that one of the students, accused of can-hurling, had been evicted. Mark DiPaolo, commanding officer of the 84th Precinct, said a community affairs officer had met with officials from the dorm. [Brooklyn Paper]
